The first day of the RQM was very successful. Four Dutchmen have officially qualified for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021 on the 50m freestyle.

Among the ladies Ranomi Kromowidjojo confirmed her nomination for the World Championship in Gwangju with a winning time of 24.38. Valerie van Roon surprised in the finals with her second place in 24.63, a personal record. She passed the by Corona troubled Femke Heemskerk, who swam 24.71 at the Amsterdam Swim Cup a year ago.
Kim Busch also finished within the OS performance requirement, but her 24.75 in the series was not enough for qualification. Only two participants per country are allowed to start in Tokyo.

The Netherlands also has two participants. In the second race of the day, Thom de Boer was again the fastest in 21.75, only 0.01s above his morning time. The limit was 21.92. This time Jesse Puts swam at the World Championships in Gwangju and he too is now sure of Olympic qualification.
Because of the results of Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Valerie van Roon, Thom de Boer and Jesse Puts, the Netherlands is represented on the 50 meters freestyle for the first time since 2004 by the full number of four participants.
