Tonight’s session started with two fantastic races. In the men’s IPC semifinal 100m Breaststroke Dutch swimmer Chantalle Zijderveld clocked a smashing time of 1:16.69. By doing so she bettered her previous record of 1:18.14 by nearly 1.5 seconds! This resulted into a new European and World Record. Also Dutch Liesette Bruinsma bettered her time of 1:27.39 and swam a new World Record in her class: 1:24.63.
Olivier van de Voort is having the time of this life at the Swim Cup event. In tonight’s semifinal IPC 100m Backstroke he swam a new World Record touching in 58.98. “I knew there was something in it for me but hadn’t expected to beat 59.31 by that much.” When Van de Voort was asked what this means for Rio he answers with a smile: “Just go for gold, just do it!” This extraordinary performance gave cause to the young volunteers in the swimming area to massively collect Olivier’s signature!
